Just a few of the fantastic comments we have received from parents and carers, teachers and librarians after the 2008-09 roll out

From parents and carers:

‘The books and supportive materials were great, it was Brilliant and the children loved the Harry book as they are already familiar with other stories in the series’

‘My children loved the book and I bought a whole set of the Harry books and we are still enjoying them’

From teachers:

‘The children love receiving the books. The enjoyment of the books is greatly enhanced for the pupils by knowing that they are taking home their own copy of a familiar class room big book. The choice of book is important. The pupils all really loved Harry and the Dinosaurs’

‘A fantastic project. The children love the packs. We linked it to our book week with the theme of dinosaurs. Even the teachers dressed up as dinosaurs! Thank you. The packs are really appreciated’

‘I think it is fantastic and has had a real impact on the children - plan to do a half term's topic on dinosaurs and children are already bringing in various resources’

‘A lovely treat for the children and encouragement to get them reading. Also the text this year was attractive to both girls and boys and autistic children who often love dinosaurs’

From librarians:

‘We had a series of Harry and the Dinosaurs story times in various branches where we had dinosaur stories, puppets, models, and activities. They really helped bring the book to life and encouraged children to read other Harry or dinosaur books’

‘I think it’s a highly admirable project - and children, parents and carers are very pleased to receive free books especially where affordability and ownership of books is a luxury’

‘The children enjoyed colouring-in the dinosaurs and adding them to Harry's bucket on the wall. Children pointed to the wall display and talked about Harry and the Dinosaurs books in the library’

In summary:

In a survey of 438 teachers just after the book packs had been given out, 74% said they’d read Harry and the Dinosaurs go to School with their reception classes and 24% said they hadn’t read it yet, but planned to.

An impressive 90% of the teachers who’d read the book in class said the pupils had ‘enjoyed it very much’ and 9% said they’d ‘quite enjoyed it’. None of the teachers said that the children hadn’t enjoyed the reading.
