Booktime aims to provide a Booktime book pack to all reception age children, regardless of background or ability.
Feedback from Local Authorities, teachers, librarians and colleagues on children requiring tailored resources highlight the following two groups as having a particular need for tailored material:
-Children with visual impairments
-Children with complex learning needs
As a result, we are offering alternatives to this year’s storybook including tactile books and books in Grade 1 Braille. In 2009 a range of audio materials were developed which will continue and be extended this year.
Our online interactive story book includes a signed version of the 2010 Booktime story book, "Slowly, Slowly, Slowly," Sais the Sloth by Eric Carle.
Children with complex learning needs
In 2010/11 there are three books which can be chosen for children with complex learning needs. These books are available to order directly from Booktime. Read reviews of the following accessible titles:
You can request copies of these books for reception-aged children (aged 4-5 years) with complex learning needs by emailing booktime@booktrust.org.uk.
Children with visual impairments
"Slowly, Slowly, Slowly," Said the Sloth and Why is the Sky Blue? have been transcribed into interleaved Grade 1 Braille in Standard English. Both books are also available in large print. If you would like to order a Booktime book pack containing either Braille or large print books for an eligible child please email booktime@booktrust.org.uk.
