Congratulations to Ed Vere!
Posted Thursday September 24th 2009 by Natasha Worswick
Here at Booktime we just wanted to say a huge congratulations to Ed Vere the author of Mr Big, this year’s Booktime book. Ed has won Booktrust’s Early Years award for his title Chick (read the review).

We blogged about his nomination a little while ago and we are really happy that Ed is now the winner of an Early Year’s award for best baby book. If you want to read a little more about Ed, his thoughts about being this year’s Booktime author and his great achievement with Chick, take a look at this article on the Guardian website.
You can also pop over to the Booktrust website to read all about the other winners of Booktrust’s Early Year’s awards. Well done Ed!

David Walliams has been shortlisted for the Funny Prize
Posted Monday September 21st 2009 by Natasha Worswick
In case you missed the exciting news, the shortlist for the Roald Dahl funny prize was announced earlier this week.
What seems to be grabbing the attention of most of the press, other than all of the fantastic titles on the list, is that David Walliams has been nominated in the funniest book for children aged seven to fourteen category for his book called The Boy in the Dress about a cross-dressing boy.
Here at Booktime we are familiar with David’s love of reading as he answered a few questions for us for our 2008 publicity campaign. Here’s what he had to say:
What was your favourite book as a child? I loved all Roald Dahl's books for children, but my absolute favourite was The Twits. It's a hilarious story of an old couple who loathe each other. Dahl's writing is always so direct and his ideas so magical, and combined with Quentin Blake's genius illustrations this book is an all-time classic.
Did you have a favourite poem or story?
My favourite poem as a child was 'This Be The Verse' by Philip Larkin.…

Booky’s World!
Posted Monday September 21st 2009 by Natasha Worswick
We blogged a little while ago about an exciting new families area on our website that was coming soon. Well – it’s here and totally fantastic.
There is so much fun to be had from our story creator and Booky’s choice of great reads, to games and an interactive version of Mr Big our 2009 Booktime book. I would head straight over there now and let Booky show you round his world.
Oh, and you may have noticed that the whole site has a new, fresher look. We’re very pleased with it, hope you are too.
