Dear parents and carers,

In Reception, we are doing lots of work based on the Booktime books. Booktime is a free books programme for children starting school, providing books for you and your child to share and enjoy at home.

There is no need to pay for or return this pack to school. It is completely free, and the books are for you and your child to keep.

Booktime is run by Booktrust, the independent charity dedicated to inspiring a lifelong love of books for all, and Pearson, the world’s leading learning company. You can find out more about the programme at www.booktime.org.uk

In class, we will be reading Why Elephant has a Trunk, a book inspired by traditional animal stories from Africa. We will be learning about how people in Africa say hello, making animal masks and talking about how different animals move.

We will also be reading Face Painting, the second free book in the Booktime book pack. We will be talking about our favourite faces in the book and drawing our own face painting designs.

You can help your child at home by reading the books with your child, talking about the pictures with them, and asking them what their favourite part of each book is. You could try helping your child to act out the story from Why Elephant has a Trunk with toys, or asking them to draw their favourite picture from Face Painting.

We hope you enjoy reading these great books together with your child.
