What do they say?
In Greenwich, Booktime is celebrated everywhere – in our schools, children's centres, libraries and homes with the whole family being inspired to share the Booktime story book.
Booktime is a great opportunity to demonstrate Greenwich's commitment to encouraging song and book sharing, parent/child bonding and interaction, and engaging parents as partners.
Children's centres and libraries displayed the book bags and posters, shared the big book with props and puppets, and sang 'Down in the Jungle' songs at Rhymetimes. Younger children decorated their very own Story Tree leaves, made 'animals of the jungle' hand puppets and received home gifting library packs so they could join in with older brothers and sisters as they brought home their Booktime bags to share.
How can we do it?
-
Work with children's centres as well as schools to really make an impact with a linked-up series of events
-
Get twice as much use from your Booktime materials by using the same book in story times for younger children. This will help younger siblings get to know the book when reception children bring their pack home from school.
