Bolton

Find out how Booktime in Bolton got all fifteen libraries involved in running events, with everyone dressing up!
What did they do?
-
Supported all fifteen libraries in delivering Booktime events and activities
-
Invited schools to visit the libraries for special Booktime-themed events
-
Staff in each library developed their own ideas to contribute to the Booktime events season: in one library, children and librarians dressed up as their favourite book characters.
Why does it work?
-
Creates special and memorable bookgifting events for reception classes
-
Bolton made a local authority-wide commitment to support the programme, and encouraged all their libraries to get involved, with 100% of libraries taking part.

What do they say?
Library staff showed a huge amount of enthusiasm and creativity in preparing their sessions, running a range of craft activities and using props such as puppets and musical instruments in their interactive storytelling sessions.
Much of the work that children produced in the sessions has been displayed in the various libraries and staff have since reported children coming back in with their parents to show them what they have done.
How can we do it?
-
Ask branch libraries for their own ideas for special Booktime events
-
Start planning your Booktime activities early so as many branch libraries as possible can take part
