Booktime 2009-10 in Northern Ireland

Clare Devlin Early Education Consultancy carried out an independent evaluation of the programme.

Highlight: 94% of parents/carers said that they either liked the Mr. Big book a lot or quite liked it. Parents' comments included:

  • “My son really enjoyed this book and listened better than usual”
  • Mr Big is now one of my daughter’s favourite books”

Booktime pilot in Wales

Swansea University’s Centre for Child Research has now published their findings on the Booktime pilot in Wales.

Highlight: 100% of teachers and parents felt that the contents of the pack were appropriate and of good or excellent quality.

Booktime in libraries

In 2009-10 Booktime worked with The Reading Agency to deliver resource packs into nearly 3,000 libraries around England.

Thank you very much to our library contacts for all their work to support Booktime in 2009-10. Many thanks also to TRA for the evaluation report – read their findings below.

Highlight: Librarians gave the following list of reasons why they felt Booktime events were beneficial:

  • Promoting the library and its services - 94.3% of respondents
  • Developing enthusiasm for books - 83.0%
  • Strengthening links with schools - 81.1%
  • Contact with non-users - 69.8%
